Villagers are preparing for a great festival for Ong-Bak, the local Buddha image, which is held only once every 24 years. The story begins in the rural Thai village of Nong Pradu. From the opening scenes it is intriguing, action packed, and beautiful to watch. Now I know why вЂ“ it is definitely one of the best action movies I have ever seen. Whenever I hear someone talking about Thai movies, the first one mentioned is вЂњOng-BakвЂќ. Employing no special effects or wirework and doing all of his own stunts, Tony Jaa is clearly the man to watch for the future of martial arts movies.Written: Prachya Pinkaew, Panna Rittikrai, Suphachai Sittiaumponpan Escape tricks (along the lines of parkour), underwater altercations, and a three-wheel taxi chase are also mixed in to show that Ting can do everything James Bond can do вЂ“ and more вЂ“ without the use of advanced technology. But with unique hand-to-hand engagements against villains such as вЂњPearl Harbor,вЂќ вЂњBig Bear,вЂќ вЂњMad Dog,вЂќ and a wheelchair-bound gangster with an electronic voice box, вЂњOng-Bak: The Thai WarriorвЂќ doesnвЂ™t shy away from the most gruelingly realistic fight choreography Hollywood has witnessed in ages. Add to that the fact that the story only exists to tie together melee scenes and battle locations, and вЂњOng-Bak: The Thai WarriorвЂќ becomes a project single-mindedly focused on the sole guilty pleasure of bone-crushing combat sport.ДЄnd in the action department, it certainly delivers, throwing jazzy techno music over stylized moments, while also frequently showing instant replays of the craziest stunts (another testament to its dedicated purpose). While the slapstick only helps to stall the inevitable close-quarters clashes viewers crave, a romance between Ting and Muay achieves the same thing, failing to completely surface.

Several scenes of comedy are introduced with HumlaeвЂ™s character, firstly through dialogue and secondly through physical tricks, since Humlae is out-of-shape and unable to defend himself. Tricking the wandering youth into competing in illegal underground circuits to win bets and pay back debts, George eventually, reluctantly decides to help Ting recover Ong-Bak вЂ“ through the course of many superbly choreographed sequences.

Once there, he meets up with petty thief and conman Humlae (who uses the name вЂњGeorgeвЂќ to avoid embarrassing ties to his village) and his assistant Muay (Pumwaree Yodkamol), an equally desperate, trifling criminal, who accidentally discovers TingвЂ™s incredible fighting talent. ItвЂ™s up to Ting to journey to Bangkok to retrieve the seized deityвЂ™s head. When Don steals the head of a statue in Nong Pradu known as Ong-Bak, which is worshipped by the villagers and aids in their harvests and water supply, the locals become distraught. Meanwhile, treacherous former villager Don (Wannakit Sirioput) has moved to the bright lights and energetic streets of Bangkok to work for a crime boss who exports stolen ancient artifacts. But soon enough, Ting will have great need for his powerful fighting abilities. Instructed by his teacher never to use the deadly martial art form, Ting instead uses his physical training to best the other villagers in rite-of-passage tournaments. In the remote village of Nong Pradu, the Muay Thai master Ting (Tony Jaa) completes his training. Despite a generic storyline (such films rarely bother with plot), вЂњOng-Bak: The Thai WarriorвЂќ is a fast-paced and fun-filled adventure that places riveting mise en scene and set pieces amidst outrageous hand-to-hand combat, ensuring that audiences will forgive the standard, tepid dialogue and premise. Younger and fitter than Chan and Li are now (though they continue to make movies despite passing their primes), Jaa demonstrates some of the best kung fu stunts to hit the big screen in quite some time. He legendary skills and heavy-hitting action of martial artists Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li may have finally met their match with newcomer Tony Jaa.
